Smart Cards – Your Key to Digital Security
Welcome to the world of smart cards – the most secure way to protect your digital identity, sign documents and access sensitive systems. Think of them as a combination of an ID card, a safe key and a company ID in a single, highly secure device the size of a credit card.
In our offer you will find a complete portfolio of Thales cards and accessories that will cover all your needs. To help you choose the right one, we have prepared a simple explanation of the basic types for you.
How to choose the right card?
Each type of card is designed for a slightly different use. Here are the main differences, explained simply:
#SHOWMORE#
Contact Cards
How does it work? Like a classic key in a lock. You have to physically insert the card into a card reader connected to your computer.
When to use it? It is ideal for stationary work at a computer where the maximum and verified level of security is required, for example for banking or for qualified electronic signatures.
Contactless Cards
How does it work? Like a beep of a payment card at a terminal. It uses NFC technology, so you just need to hold it to the reader or to your mobile phone.
When to use it? Perfect for quick and convenient authentication, especially on mobile devices or for passwordless login.
Dual-Interface Cards
How does it work? Imagine it as one brain with two ways of communication. The card has
one single smart chip that can communicate in both ways – both when inserted into the reader (contact) and when placed (contactless via NFC).
Main advantage: Maximum flexibility. You can use one and the same card with the same certificates on a desktop computer with a USB reader and on the go with a mobile phone.
Hybrid Cards
How does it work? Imagine it as two specialists in one body. The card has two separate, independent chips.
One chip is contact and serves the highest security (e.g. PKI for digital signatures).
The second chip is contactless and typically serves a completely different purpose, most often for physical access (opening doors, attendance registration).
Main advantage: Consolidation of multiple cards into one. Allows you to unlock the door in the office with a single card and at the same time securely log in to the corporate network.
Don't forget about readers
In order to fully utilize the potential of the cards, you will also need an appropriate card reader. In our offer you will find both classic contact USB readers for the desk and modern wireless readers for maximum mobility.
